Building Something Beautiful Takes Time

S: “Don’t look for shortcuts to God. The market is flooded with surefire, easygoing formulas for a successful life that can be practiced in your spare time. Don’t fall for that stuff, even though crowds of people do. The way to life—to God!—is vigorous and requires total attention. Matthew 7:13-14 (MSG)

“These words I speak to you are not incidental additions to your life, homeowner improvements to your standard of living. They are foundational words, words to build a life on. Matthew 7: 24 (MSG)

O: I cannot pick and choose which parts of Your instructions I want to follow. I cannot live as I see fit, and then implement Your principles to help the areas in my life that are weak and falling apart. It’s an all or nothing deal. A life followed after You requires total dedication – no shortcuts – no quick fixes. I’m in this for the long haul.

A: Maybe that’s what people are afraid of – our whole lives are a long time to “keep our act together.”

But what I’m learning is that following You requires less acting than following the world. Only with You can I be myself – unedited – and still be accepted. And loved. Completely.

It’s this kind of love that draws me in. It’s this kind of acceptance that grants me freedom. It’s that kind of life I want!

So I can drop the act.

Instead of trying to keep it all together – chasing after the latest “remedy” to help put my life in order – I can just let it all go and take hold of You. All of You for all of me.

P: Jesus, thanks for being an incredible architect. While I can’t see what You are building, I’m doing my best to follow the blueprints You’ve drawn up for my life. I know in the end we will build something beautiful – a life that points to You, God. Help me to drop the act, and to simply live a life built on You.
